Costco is recalling more than 113,000 electric kettles in the United States following reports that handles could detach, causing boiling water to spill on users. The recall, announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, includes Zwilling Enfinigy electric kettles sold at Costco and HomeGoods stores across the US between September 2019 and November 2025.
Details of the Recall
The affected models are the Enfinigy electric kettles 1.5 L and Pro 1.5 L, which are stainless steel and available in black, silver, rose, gold, and white. In addition to the US, approximately 43,000 units were sold in Canada and Mexico.
Zwilling has received 163 reports of handles loosening or separating from the kettle, including at least one incident resulting in a second-degree burn. Costco has sent letters to members who purchased the kettles, urging them to stop using the devices immediately and to initiate a return via Zwilling's customer service website for a full refund.
Refund Process
Zwilling's website instructs users to upload a picture of the kettle, cut the cord, and then dispose of it in the trash. Alternatively, Costco members can return the product to their local warehouse for a full refund. A representative of Costco did not respond to requests for comment.
Context of Product Recalls
Thousands of product recalls occur annually in the US across multiple industries, with over 6,000 events per year. Costco has had previous recalls, including a popular meatloaf and mashed potatoes kit recalled in March due to potential salmonella contamination. That recall affected 26 Costco locations and was issued after supplier Griffith Foods flagged a potential contamination.
Similarly, this week Kroger pulled a popular salad item after the FDA issued a recall warning about possible salmonella contamination in an ingredient.
Consumers who own the recalled Zwilling Enfinigy electric kettles should stop using them immediately and follow the refund instructions to avoid injury.
