Southern Co-op is giving thousands of customers who spend just £1 their shopping for free. The 'Pop in and win' summer giveaway has been launched across 173 stores and will see 10,000 winners selected at random at checkout.
Promotion Details and Exclusions
The promotion will run until Friday, August 21. Customers are automatically entered when paying at staffed or self-service checkouts and do not need to do anything. However, some products are excluded, including alcohol, tobacco, fuel, lottery tickets and gift cards. The promotion also does not apply to Co-op franchised Welcome shops or home-delivery orders.
Donations and Online Draw
Co-op will donate £1 to the Retail Trust for every shop awarded, equating to £10,000. The Retail Trust, established in 1832, supports wellbeing, mental health, and financial aid for retail workers. Additionally, shoppers can enter an online draw without making a purchase, with 50 people receiving a £30 gift card to spend in stores.

Anuj Christie, Southern Co-op head of store operations, said the promotion aims to help families during the summer months, a difficult time for some when spending more on feeding and entertaining children. He also noted the promotion creates moments of 'surprise and delight' for shoppers and benefits retail workers through Retail Trust donations.
Previous Campaigns
Southern Co-op, part of the national Co-op group, runs 173 stores across southern England. It previously ran a similar festive campaign where it paid for hundreds of customers' Christmas shopping and gave £75,000 in grants to community organisations through its Winter Fund.
