Cleaning enthusiasts on social media have identified a budget-friendly product that they claim removes grease stains from clothing effectively. The product, Elbow Grease, an all-purpose degreaser available for around £1, was repeatedly recommended in a Facebook group discussion.
Frustration Over Stubborn Stains
The tip emerged on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page after a woman posted a photo of a stained t-shirt, expressing her frustration. She wrote: "I'm going to need anger managment counselling, before I lose it. I think it was hot olive oil/bacon grease couple days ago. Any tips for this t shirt?"
Group members responded with numerous suggestions, but Elbow Grease stood out as the most popular. One person said: "Elbow grease cleaner. So good at lifting stains." Another echoed: "Elbow Grease, good stuff."
How to Use the Product
Several users shared their specific methods. One advised: "I usually spray my grease stains with elbow grease yellow spray generously, leave to sit for about 20 mins and then on a 40° wash and mine always come out, I wash them alone as well." Another commented: "Elbow grease kitchen spray. The yellow one works at removing grease stains.. spray and work in and wash as normal."
The spray is available from retailers including Tesco, The Range, Wilko, Asda and Sainsbury's. As an all-purpose degreaser, it can be applied as a pre-treatment before washing, with the marks expected to disappear.
Other Popular Remedies
Bicarbonate of soda and washing-up liquid were also recommended. One person posted: "Bicarbonate of soda mixed with washing up liquid. Make into a paste and leave for 10 mins then wash as normal." Another said: "Put some neat washing up liquid on it, leave it to soak(no water added). Then wash as usual in washing machine." A third noted: "Fairy washing up liquid has always worked for me removing oil stains."
