Butternut Box: Is the 'Michelin Dog Star' fresh dog food worth it?
Butternut Box: Is the 'Michelin Dog Star' food worth it?

Butternut Box, a gently cooked fresh dog food brand, is positioning itself as the answer to the raw versus fresh debate, with surveyed former raw feeders reporting high satisfaction after making the switch.

The brand, which has been on the radar of pet owners since around 2022, is gently cooked at 90 degrees before being frozen. This sets it apart from raw food, although both are often grouped together because they use recognisable ingredients and require different storage from conventional shelf-stable dog food.

Survey Results and Customer Satisfaction

Among surveyed customers who previously fed raw food, 95 per cent said they were happy they had switched to Butternut Box. Additionally, 90 per cent of former raw feeders said the brand was easier and safer to prepare, and 74 per cent said they would not go back to raw food.

The brand also reports that 59 per cent of sampled shoppers experienced increased mealtime excitement after switching, and it is trusted by vets to keep pets safe.

Review and Product Details

Butternut Box was reviewed by The Standard last year and trumped all other dog food brands. Shani Cohen said: "This is our top choice for the lucky pups who get to try these delicious doggy dishes. Hand-prepared with fresh human ingredients and immediately frozen to lock in the goodness, Butternut Box has got all the dog community talking... All recipes are grain-free, and there are low-fat options if your pooch is carrying a bit too much timber."

Meals are comprised of ingredients found in a typical fridge, including meat, fish, and vegetables, and are suitable for sensitive tummies and pups of all ages.
