The Warm Home Discount Scheme has been extended for five more years, providing eligible households with a £150 discount on their energy bills each winter. This means customers of major suppliers like British Gas, Octopus Energy, EDF, and E.ON could receive up to £750 in total by winter 2030/31.
Scheme Extended to 2030/31
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) confirmed the extension for England, Wales, and Scotland. The one-off £150 discount is applied directly by energy suppliers to electricity bills, not paid as a lump sum.
Currently, 24 energy suppliers participate, including British Gas, Octopus Energy, EDF, and E.ON Next. Eligible customers of these suppliers will get £150 off each year for the next five years.
Eligibility Criteria
In England and Wales, households receiving Housing Benefit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Pension Credit, or Universal Credit qualify. The billpayer must be named on the energy bill by August 23, 2026, to receive the discount automatically.
In Scotland, the criteria differ slightly. The discount applies automatically if you or your partner receive Pension Credit, get extra Universal Credit due to a disability or health condition, or receive certain disability or pensioner premiums with income-related ESA or a Support for Mortgage Interest loan.
Impact and Supplier List
DESNZ stated: “Every household where the billpayer is on means-tested benefits is in line for the rebate, following the expansion of the scheme last year.” The expansion added nearly a million families with children last winter, with around six million households across Britain eligible.
The scheme for winter 2026/27 reopens in October, with the £150 applied by suppliers. Participating suppliers include 100Green, Boost, British Gas, E, Ecotricity, EDF, EnergyCoop, E.ON Next, Fuse Energy, Good Energy, Home Energy, London Power, Octopus Energy, Outfox Energy, OVO, Sainsbury’s Energy, ScottishPower, So Energy, Square 1 Energy, TruEnergy, Tulo Energy, Utilita, and Utility Warehouse.
