A British travel influencer was left stunned after paying €7.50 for a Guinness at the first Wetherspoons outside the UK and Ireland, located at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport in Spain. Content creator Just Deano, who has 41,100 YouTube subscribers, described the pint as 'absolutely dreadful' and questioned the value for money.
Deano, from Huddersfield, visited the pub after a trip to Benidorm and found it to be the smallest Wetherspoons he had ever been in. He ordered an all-day brunch alongside the Guinness, bringing his total bill to €20.45 (approximately £17.73). He noted that the eggs looked 'terrible' but praised the Lincolnshire sausages, calling them the best he'd had in Spain.
Despite enjoying the sausages, chips, bacon, and beans, Deano was critical of the overall experience. He claimed the Guinness lacked the consistency of UK Wetherspoons, rating it a five out of ten. He argued that the prices were inflated due to the airport location, saying, 'they are definitely airport prices because that’s an extortionate amount of money.'
Some viewers defended the prices, pointing out that Wetherspoons at UK airports also charge more. One commented that they paid £16.50 for a brunch and pint at Gatwick. Wetherspoons has since announced plans to open two more pubs in Barcelona-El Prat Airport by 2026 and 2027.
