Brit Shocked by Cost of 'Dreadful' Guinness at Spain's Wetherspoons

A British travel influencer was left stunned by the price and quality of a pint of Guinness at the first Wetherspoons pub in Spain. The chain opened its first venue outside the UK and Ireland at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport in February, and it has quickly become a popular spot for returning holidaymakers.

YouTuber's Verdict

Content creator Just Deano, who has over 41,000 subscribers, visited the pub after a trip to Benidorm. He described it as the smallest Wetherspoons he had ever seen and was shocked to pay €7.50 for a Guinness. 'I thought this was Wetherspoons? And it's absolutely dreadful. This is not a good start,' he said.

Food and Drink Review

Despite the disappointing start, Deano ordered an all-day brunch, bringing his total to €20.45 (about £17.73). He criticised the appearance of the eggs, calling them 'terrible,' but praised the Lincolnshire sausages as the best he had in Spain. 'That might be the best sausage I've had in Spain. It is basically a spoons sausage,' he noted.

He found the chips reminiscent of those back home but deemed the eggs 'one of the worst' he had ever eaten. The bacon and beans, however, were acceptable. Deano reiterated that the venue was the tiniest he had experienced and questioned why it was so small.

Overall Experience

Reflecting on his visit, Deano said: 'The best part about it? The sausages. The worst part about it is probably the Guinness. Normally the Wetherspoons Guinness is a solid eight out of 10... Unfortunately in Spain, they lost that consistency.' He rated the overall experience a 5 out of 10 and claimed the prices were double what he paid for breakfast on his outward journey.

'So, although they are calling themselves spoons, they are definitely airport prices because that's an extortionate amount of money,' he added. '€20.45 for a pint, a bad pint, and an all-day breakfast? Yeah, I'm not convinced about that.'

Some viewers defended the prices, noting that Wetherspoons in UK airports also charge more. One commenter said: 'I paid £16.50 at Gatwick spoons for brunch and a pint so not far off what you paid.'

Future Expansion

Following the successful launch in Alicante, Wetherspoons has announced two more venues in mainland Europe, both at Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The first will open in Terminal 1 by September 2026, and the second in Terminal 2 by January 2027.
