Adam McCann, 53, from Bootle, says he has been left out of pocket by his housing provider, One Vision, which he claims owes him around £150 for taxis and running a dehumidifier during a bathroom repair that took over six months.
Since January 2026, Mr McCann has been in contact with One Vision, which manages the block of flats where he has lived for more than 20 years. What began as a leak in his bathroom led to mold on the walls and ceiling, and the ceiling eventually caved in.
Hotel stay and unpaid costs
In June and July, One Vision moved Mr McCann into a hotel while work began on the walls and waterlogged ceiling. He was also told to run a dehumidifier, and claims the provider said it would reimburse him for taxis to and from the hotel and the running costs of the dehumidifier.
Mr McCann said: "It took them six months to start, they still haven’t finished."
"They’ve fixed most of it now but they never fixed the leak, they just put the ceiling up. Eventually it’s going to collapse again. They’re just patching over it but not fixing the leak."
Health concerns and dangling light
Living with health conditions including COPD, Mr McCann has been unable to use his shower since builders left the ceiling light dangling. He said: "The light is dangling down now and I can’t even get a shower in case water splashes, it will cause a fire."
He added: "I haven’t been able to get a shower for like eight weeks, maybe even longer because of the light dangling. I’m scared to use the shower in case water gets into it." He also feels the leak and mold have contributed to worsening his health conditions "getting onto [his] chest".
Response from One Vision
A day after the ECHO contacted One Vision, Mr McCann said someone had finally come out to fix the light into the ceiling. However, he has still not been reimbursed for the money he spent on taxis and the dehumidifier, which he claims equates to around £150.
A spokesperson from One Vision said: "We are aware of this matter and have been working directly with the customer to address the concerns raised, with all identified works now complete."
"We will continue to engage directly with the customer and remain committed to providing safe, high-quality homes and ensuring the wellbeing of our customers."
