Customers of B&M and Savers have been told to stop using a popular beauty product after the manufacturer recalled it due to concerns that it may cause "eye inflammation".
Unilever, the manufacturer of Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water (730ml) products, has recalled a limited number of products over the fears. The company said: "In the UK, we are recalling a limited number of Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water (730ml) products with specific batch codes (613841 or 613941) as a precaution due to the possible presence of bacteria, which has the potential to cause eye inflammation for some consumers."
Precautionary measure
The company stressed that the recall is being taken as "a precautionary measure". They added: "The safety of the people who buy and use our products is our top priority. Other Simple products are not affected by this issue."
Refund instructions from retailers
A recall notice on B&M's website read: "Any customer who has purchased the product is advised to retain the packaging and return the product to a B&M store, where you will receive a full refund. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Services (0330 8389000)."
Savers added: "If you have purchased an affected Simple product with one of the batch codes listed above, please stop using the product immediately and contact the Unilever careline by either email or phone for further guidance and a refund.
"The best way to contact Unilever is via email: ukicare@unilever.com. Alternatively, call 0800 146 252 or visit a Savers store with proof of purchase, and we can offer a refund or an exchange."
Boots and Superdrug also sell smaller sizes (such as 200ml or 400ml) of the product, but these remain unaffected and are not currently the subject of any warnings.
How to check if your product is affected
Those concerned that they might be in possession of one of the affected batches should check the batch codes listed above to see whether the specific bottle is part of the recall. The batch code can be found at the bottom of the bottle, as a series of numbers printed directly on the packaging.
If they find that their product matches those included in the recall, they should return the bottle back to the store of purchase to be given a full refund.
