B&M and Savers issue recall for Simple Micellar Water over bacteria risk
B&M and Savers recall Simple Micellar Water over bacteria risk

People have been told not to use a popular beauty product sold in stores like B&M and Savers. It has been recalled by the manufacturer due to concerns that it may cause "eye inflammation".

Because this is a manufacturer-led product recall initiated by Unilever (Simple's parent company), all stores selling the product are pulling the affected stock. High-street chains like Boots and Superdrug do sell smaller sizes (such as 200ml or 400ml), which are unaffected by this recall.

Recall details and affected batches

The company said: "In the UK, we are recalling a limited number of Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water (730ml) products with specific batch codes (613841 or 613941) as a precaution due to the possible presence of bacteria, which has the potential to cause eye inflammation for some consumers."

The recall is being labelled as "a precautionary measure". The company added: "The safety of the people who buy and use our products is our top priority. Other Simple products are not affected by this issue."

Simple added to the product recall: "If you have any concerns about your health, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional."

How to check and what to do

Check the batch codes listed above to see whether the specific bottle is part of the recall. The batch code can be found at the bottom of the bottle, as a series of numbers printed directly on the packaging.

The most important thing shoppers should do is avoid using the product. If it matches the recall batch, it should be returned for a refund.

On B&M's website, the recall notice said: "Any customer who has purchased the product is advised to retain the packaging and return the product to a B&M store, where you will receive a full refund. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Services (0330 8389000)."

Savers said: "If you have purchased an affected Simple product with one of the batch codes listed above, please stop using the product immediately and contact the Unilever careline by either email or phone for further guidance and a refund."

The best way to contact Unilever is via email: ukicare@unilever.com. Alternatively, call 0800 146 252 or visit a Savers store with proof of purchase, and we can offer a refund or an exchange.

You do not need to go back to the specific shop where you bought it or still have the receipt to resolve this. Contact Unilever directly by email ukicare@unilever.com with a photo of the bottle showing one of the affected batch codes (613841 or 613941) on the bottom.
