Best days for Aldi and Lidl middle aisle bargains revealed

Money-saving expert Jordon Cox has revealed the two best days to shop at Aldi and Lidl for middle aisle bargains. Known as 'Britain's Coupon King', he says shoppers can improve their chances of finding the best offers by timing their visits carefully.

Thursdays and Sundays are restock days

In a recent Instagram post, filmed outside Aldi, Cox explained: "But first, the best days. Thursdays and Sundays. Why? Because those are the days middle aisles are restocked with items. That means you should never shop on a Wednesday or Saturday because all the good stuff is likely gone."

Cox, who regularly shares tips on programmes including ITV's This Morning, also advised his followers to monitor the Lidl Plus app, noting he has had £5 off vouchers in recent weeks. The post attracted more than 5,000 likes, with one person commenting: "Great tips."

Shoppers and staff weigh in

Some shoppers suggested they would avoid the recommended days to prevent overspending. One joked: "Yeah I'm going to avoid those days like the plague, I enjoy having money in my bank account." Another added: "I'll shop on Wednesday and Saturday when I'm trying to save money then."

Aldi employees also joined the discussion. One said: "I work at Aldi and [Wednesday and Saturdays] are sometimes good days to look as they get us to mark down left over specials on the last day to dirt cheap before they get signed off to charity. I got a parasol for 1.99 once. Sometimes worth a gander." Other staff members suggested avoiding Sundays as it is "so busy".

How Aldi and Lidl keep prices low

Rather than stocking shelves with pricey household name brands, approximately 80% to 90% of the supermarket's inventory comprises high-quality, own-label alternatives. Outlets also maintain a carefully selected range of roughly 1,500 to 4,000 product lines, in contrast to 30,000 or more at conventional supermarkets, cutting storage and staffing expenses. Items are presented directly in their delivery boxes on pallets, while efficient checkout procedures reduce labour expenditure.

Middle aisle offers, referred to as Aldi's Specialbuys and the Middle of Lidl, refresh twice weekly, providing substantially reduced seasonal products, electronics, kitchen equipment, tools, and garments. Core pantry and dairy items such as eggs, milk, tinned goods, and baking ingredients consistently beat traditional supermarket pricing. Both retailers also operate weekly fresh produce offers, such as Aldi's "Super 6" or Lidl's "Pick of the Week", significantly discounting selected fresh fruit and vegetables.
