Milton International SAS has withdrawn several 500ml bottles of its baby bottle cleaner from the UK market after insects were discovered in the liquid. An alert posted to the Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS) confirmed that six bottles are affected.
Various batch numbers with expiration dates in 2029 are involved, and the full list is available on the OPSS website. Only the affected bottles have been removed from sale and are no longer available for purchase.
Product details and availability
The product, described as a "dishwater liquid for cleaning baby bottles," is sold at major retailers including Boots, Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons, and Ocado.
Milton stated that a "full investigation" was launched after the discovery, including an ISO standards-compliant laboratory microbiological test that found "there is no risk to babies' health or safety."
Precautionary withdrawal
The affected bottles were withdrawn as a precaution. New quality measures have been introduced into the supply chain to ensure the issue "does not happen again." Some retailers issued a full recall, but Milton advised this was "not required" as there was "no safety risk." The brand apologized to customers and is working with retailers to rectify the situation.
Milton Baby Bottle Cleaner may be unavailable at certain stores, but the brand is "working closely" with partners to restore supply "as quickly as possible."

The full announcement on Milton's website reads: "The safety of babies and the trust of parents are our highest priorities so we want to be open with you about a recent issue with Milton Baby Bottle Cleaner and what we have done about it. We identified the presence of insects in a small number of UK Milton Baby Bottle Cleaner bottles. As soon as we became aware we removed the affected products from sale and began a full investigation. This included conducting laboratory microbiological testing according to ISO Standards– which confirmed there is no risk to babies’ health or safety. There was some confusion with certain retailers issuing a notice requiring a full product recall from the public – we apologise for this – it was not required as there is no safety risk – we are in touch with the retailers concerned to rectify this. We have introduced new quality measures into our supply chain processes to ensure this does not happen again. Because we removed the affected products from sale as a precaution; UK Milton Baby Bottle Cleaner may currently be unavailable at some retailers. We are working closely with our partners to restore supply as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. While no health risks are associated with the Milton Baby Bottle Cleaner, other recalls may pose threats to children. Recently, authorities seized 'hundreds' of viral squishy toys in several UK areas. Cheaper imitations of TikTok-famed Squishy Dumplings and Needoh toys were found potentially contaminated with benzene. Officers from Reading Borough Council noted a "strong chemical odour" and lack of essential safety information required under UK law.
