Asda and Morrisons recall pasta over listeria risk

Urgent product recalls have been issued for three pasta products from Asda and Morrisons, with customers being warned 'do not eat'. The supermarkets have removed the impacted food from shelves and are urging shoppers to return the items for a full refund.

Recall details

On August 7, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an important notice that Greencore is recalling three pasta products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Customers could experience a wide range of symptoms if the product is consumed, including being sick, high temperature and diarrhoea.

Asda and Morrisons have both been notified of the recall, with the products being removed from the shop floor and recall notices issued with customer information. The impacted products are Asda Cheese and Tomato Pasta Salad, Asda Nacho Cheese Pasta Salad, and Morrisons Chicken and Bacon Pasta.

What shoppers should do

It is important to note that only certain dates of the products have been impacted by the product recall. Therefore, shoppers should make sure to double check the date on the item before taking it to their local supermarket for a refund.

The listed products have been removed from sale as they may have the possible presence of a bacteria known as Listeria monocytogenes. This can cause symptoms that can feel similar to flu, such as high temperatures, muscle aches or pain, chills, feeling or being sick, and diarrhoea.

Severe complications warning

However, the FSA does warn that in rare cases the listeria infection can become more severe. This could in turn cause "severe complications" such as meningitis.

Additionally, some people are more vulnerable to infection, therefore it is crucial that they do not consume the affected food. This includes those over 65-years-old, pregnant women, babies less than one month old, and people with a weakened immune system.

The FSA advises: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt."
