A widely sold baby teething toy available through Amazon has been subject to an urgent safety recall in the United States, following dozens of alarming choking incidents reported by consumers. The recall highlights significant concerns over product standards and child safety in online marketplaces.
Serious Safety Violation Prompts Recall
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, after identifying a critical design flaw. Approximately 6,800 units of the Yetonamr Pull String Teething Toys, sold by the Chinese firm Longyanguiheng via Amazon.com, have been removed from circulation.
The federal agency confirmed that the products "violate the mandatory standard for toys." Specifically, the silicone pull-strings attached to the toys are manufactured to a diameter smaller than legally permitted. This defect allows the strings to reach the back of an infant's throat, where they can become lodged.
Immediate Risk to Infant Health
This design failure poses a severe and immediate risk, including respiratory distress, serious choking, and potential death. The CPSC initiated the recall after becoming aware of 32 separate choking incidents directly linked to the toys.
The recalled product is an off-white, disc-shaped teething toy. It features a central red or blue ball, three free-spinning rings, soft push buttons, and six long, multicoloured silicone pull-strings threaded through the ball.
Identification and Consumer Action Required
The affected toys were sold exclusively on Amazon.com between June 2025 and October 2025, with prices ranging from $10 to $16. Consumers can identify the recalled batch by the Model number 688-59 printed on the packaging.
The CPSC has issued strict instructions for owners of the product:
- Stop using the teething toys immediately.
- Contact the seller, Longyanguiheng, to arrange a full refund.
- Cut and discard all silicone string tentacles.
- Write "DESTROYED" on the main body of the toy using a permanent marker.
- Email a photograph of the modified toy to yetonamr_recall@163.com as proof of destruction.
A Pattern of Child Product Recalls
This teething toy recall is part of a concerning trend of hazardous children's products being sold through major online retailers. In recent months, several other items have been recalled for posing ingestion risks.
Battery Ingestion Hazards
In December 2025, over 10,000 KTEBO-branded writing tablets sold on Amazon were recalled. The CPSC found the screw securing the button cell battery compartment could detach, allowing children easy access to the batteries. If ingested, these batteries can cause severe internal chemical burns.
Similarly, Cubimana treehouse building toy sets, sold via Shein, were recalled. Their battery compartments were also deemed too easily accessible by children, presenting the same ingestion danger.
Magnet Ingestion Dangers
Separately, CreateOn Crayola-branded Pip-Cubes magnetic building sets, sold through Michaels and Amazon, were recalled. The high-powered magnets inside the cubes can come loose. If swallowed, they can attract to each other or metal objects within a child's digestive system.
The agency warns this can lead to intestinal perforations, blockages, blood poisoning, and, in the most severe cases, death. These consecutive recalls underscore the critical need for rigorous safety checks and compliance enforcement for toys sold directly to consumers online, especially those intended for the youngest and most vulnerable users.
