Which? blind taste test declared Aldi and Lidl Greek-style yoghurts joint winners, scoring 77% and costing £1.49 for a 1kg tub. This is less than half the price of Yeo Valley's Organic Greek Style natural yoghurt, which took third place at £2.25 for 450g.
A panel of 64 yoghurt enthusiasts tasted nearly 100 tubs in a blind test, rating flavour, texture, appearance, aroma, creaminess, thickness and sharpness.
Taste test results
Lidl's Milbona Greek Style Yoghurt and Aldi's Brooklea Greek Style Yoghurt both achieved 77%. Tasters praised Lidl's creaminess and depth of flavour, while Aldi's was noted for 'perfect' thickness and creaminess.
In third place was Yeo Valley's Organic Greek Style natural yoghurt, priced at £2.25 for 450g. Sainsbury's Greek Style Natural Yogurt scored 74% and costs £1.15 for 500g.
Tesco, M&S and Co-Op jointly finished last, each scoring 71%, with tasters commenting they lacked creaminess.
Difference between Greek and Greek-style yoghurt
Greek yoghurt must be made in Greece from Greek milk, while Greek-style yoghurt is a strained product made elsewhere. Greek-style may not follow the same production techniques or have identical nutritional value, and does not meet the origin criteria for genuine Greek yoghurt.
