Strictly Come Dancing professional Vito Coppola has left his former co-star Luba Mushtuk in tears following an emotional farewell speech during their final performance together as part of the BBC show's professional cast. The Italian dancer, who won the 2023 series, shared the poignant moment in a YouTube vlog after the pair performed at a 'Strictly Weekend' event.
Emotional Farewell at Strictly Weekend
Luba Mushtuk, who joined Strictly as a professional dancer a decade ago, officially marked the end of her time on the show last month. Her last performance as an official cast member came alongside Vito at the weekend event. In the video, Vito presented Luba with flowers and delivered a heartfelt speech that moved her to tears.
Vito said: "I must say that I am so, so happy and glad, privileged and honoured to have done not just this dance with you, we have done everything together since the very beginning. You have always been kind to me. You are not just a beautiful dancer and an amazing professional but you are a unique friend." He added: "You will be in my life forever because I love you so, so much and beyond."
Departures and New Recruits
The BBC has confirmed several professional dancers will not return for the upcoming series, which is set to air in September. Among those leaving are Gorka Marquez, Michelle Tsiakkas, Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova, and Luba Mushtuk. The network has announced it will recruit new professionals to replace them, with details to be revealed closer to the show's autumn return.
Vito, who will continue as a professional on the show, joked after the emotional moment: "And also because I want to keep coming to your home to eat your food!" He reassured Luba: "I'm going to be with you forever, Lubushka. You can count on me always."
Luba's Response
Struggling to compose herself, Luba replied: "Thank you so much. Wow. Okay. I told you I'll be sponsored by waterproof mascara from tomorrow. Thank you. You're the best. You know, I love you." She then quipped to Vito: "I might vote for you this year, you know."
The pair embraced as the crowd applauded, marking the end of an era for the professional dancer who has been a staple of the show for ten years.
