Millions to get £800 DWP benefit early

Millions of people across the UK will receive their benefit and pension payments early this month. With the upcoming August bank holiday on Monday, August 31, claimants will receive their essential financial support payments three days early on Friday, August 28.

Early payment arrangement

The early payment arrangement will apply to all major benefits to help ensure families and older people receive their money without disruption over the bank holiday period whilst the cost of living remains high. It means that pensioners who receive the basic State Pension of around £801.23 every four weeks will receive their payment slightly earlier.

Benefits impacted include: Universal Credit, State Pension, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit, Employment Support Allowance, and Industrial Injuries Compensation Scheme.

Who gets the payment early

The date will only be changed for those expecting their payment on Monday, August 31. Pensioners who receive the basic State Pension of £801.23 every four weeks will receive their pension early.

Minister for social security and disability Sir Stephen Timms said: "We’re pleased to confirm that benefit payments due on the August bank holiday will be paid earlier. This will help ensure families and older people receive their money without disruption over the bank holiday period."

He added: "This government is determined to ensure people up and down the country have the support and breathing room they need, which is why we’ve acted to take money off energy bills, increase the National Minimum Wage and lift half a million children out of poverty, as well as supporting people into good, secure jobs."
