William Dunne, 40, was warned he could be jailed after he admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class B drug. Hamilton Sheriff Court heard Dunne called police on January 15 last year to say he had been attacked at an address in Laurel Drive, Wishaw.
Police called to assault find cannabis haul
Connor McIntyre, prosecuting, said: “He told them he’d had to flee from the locus. When officers attended he wasn’t there but he did return and freely stated there was a holdall in a cupboard. He showed the bag to the officers and opened it. Inside were 12 smaller bags, each containing half a kilo of cannabis.”
The cannabis had a value of £26,400 but if sold in street deals could fetch £54,160. Mr McIntyre added: “The accused was arrested and taken to Motherwell police station. He made no reply when charged.”
Dunne on bail at time of offence
Dunne, of East Hamilton Street, Wishaw, was on bail for assault at the time. His lawyer said he accepted the custody threshold had been crossed due to the value of the drugs seized. She added: “He is aware he was part of the drugs supply chain, but there has been no further offending since this. He is in full time employment as a groundworker. He and his partner are expecting their first child.”
Sentence deferred for reports
Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. He told Dunne: “You have previously served prison sentences but not for this type of offending. Do not read too much into the fact that reports are called for. The court is looking at all options.”
