HSBC UK has launched UK shares and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) through online banking and its mobile banking app, and is offering a £50 bonus to customers who open an eligible investment account and deposit a minimum of £500.
New investment options and features
The bank announced on Monday that customers can now buy and sell UK shares and ETFs via their chosen digital platform, with complete control to place, track, review and cancel market or limit orders. Customers also gain access to new tools, including investment watchlists, heatmaps, ETF screeners, corporate event notifications linked to portfolio holdings, and more comprehensive research and educational resources on the app.
HSBC UK confirmed: "To give customers even more value as they start their investment journey, HSBC UK has also launched an offer where customers who open an eligible investment account and deposit a minimum of £500 into it will receive £50. The introduction of shares and ETFs on mobile follows the launch of more than 300 funds last year and a simpler account-opening journey that enables customers to open an investment account via the app in five steps."
Building on last year's developments
The move follows the launch of the Wealth Select List last year, curated by expert analysts to simplify fund selection and help demystify investment decisions. HSBC UK customers can now access a suite of new features across digital channels, including watchlists to track investments, corporate event notifications, heatmaps and an ETF screener.
An improved digital experience was also introduced, offering clearer, more straightforward navigation both online and within the app. New investments now encompass UK shares and ETFs traded in British currency, with enhanced search and filtering capabilities offering "deeper insights".
Addressing the investment gap
Emma Tilt, head of digital wealth at HSBC UK, said: "We know there is an investment gap in the UK and we are continuing to expand our offering to help empower our customers to take their first step towards investing."
"The launch of UK shares and ETFs is the next stage on our journey to develop a stand-out digital wealth offering for our customers, building on the wider choice of funds and simpler account-opening journey we introduced last year."
"By bringing more investments, intuitive tools and richer insights together in our app and online banking, we are giving customers greater choice and control over how they invest, wherever they are on their journey."
