Liverpool's summer transfer activity has been limited to the capture of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, with the ongoing World Cup posing a significant obstacle to further business. Manager Andoni Iraola is expected to assess his current squad, but more incomings appear likely.
Bradley Barcola Advised Against Liverpool Move
Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has urged PSG winger Bradley Barcola, currently starring at the World Cup with France, to resist a big-money move to Liverpool. Desailly, a former French international, told the 23-year-old to continue his career at Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool have turned their attention to Barcola, with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande reportedly preferring a move to PSG. The European champions are insistent they have no desire to sell Barcola, valuing him in excess of £100 million, with Arsenal also believed to be keen.
"Barcola doesn’t need to leave PSG," Desailly said. "He's too young. Didier Deschamps is teaching him a lesson and giving him a chance. I thought that for Barcola to start and play 90 minutes at the international level, he wouldn’t do it because Barcola is too light on defensive discipline. Remember, we play with four offensive players, and bringing Barcola into the system could have been another weakness because he doesn't make the effort to defend. When you look at his previous matches with PSG, or even some of the matches he did for the national team during the Euros, he had that weakness. He's young; the attention and defensive alertness isn't there to match the speed he projects when he’s going forward. He wasn't making the effort to get back into position. So, should he move to the Premier League? Not yet. Not yet at all. Sorry Arsenal and Liverpool fans. He should stay at Paris Saint-Germain, play 25 games a season, and grow within that system."
Mohamed Salah Future Update
Italian giants Roma and Juventus have explored the possibility of signing Mohamed Salah this summer, according to reports. The 34-year-old winger continues to be linked with clubs, particularly in Saudi Arabia where there has been longstanding interest.
The Mail reports that Roma, the club Salah joined Liverpool from, and Juventus are interested but could face a financial challenge to bring the Egyptian star to Italy. Salah is expected to command a significant wage wherever he goes this summer. The United States has been touted as another potential destination, while clubs in Turkey also have interest.
Speaking ahead of the World Cup, Salah claimed his future would be resolved after the tournament. "I am still assessing things," he said. "I have time now. I am going to the World Cup and then everything will become clear."
