Emmerdale actor Lawrence Robb has revealed that his character Mackenzie Boyd's confrontation with Ross Barton was driven by instinct rather than a calculated plan, culminating in a violent push from a barn mezzanine that could leave Ross dead.
Mack's Emotional Turmoil
In an interview, Robb explained that Mack is grappling with multiple betrayals: Ross's affair with his wife Charity Dingle and the revelation that baby Leyla is actually Charity and Ross's biological daughter. Most villagers believe Charity carried her granddaughter Sarah's baby as a surrogate, but a few know the truth. Mack's anger is compounded by Charity's trauma at the hands of Dr. Todd, leaving him heartbroken and vengeful.
Confrontation at the Farm
Next week, Mack asks Ross to help with a job at the farm, intending to confront him. Robb stated, "Mack doesn't have a calculated plan. He's driven by pure instinct and a desperate need to get Ross alone." Ross realizes something is wrong, and the situation escalates into a scuffle on the barn mezzanine. Mack pushes Ross over the side. "In that moment, Mack isn't trying to kill him - he just wants to hurt him," Robb said.
Betrayal and Forgiveness
Mack feels deeply betrayed by Ross, as they had become close friends. While he understands Charity's motivations due to his love for her, Ross's betrayal is harder to reconcile. Ross attempts to justify his actions, but tensions flare. When asked if Mack can forgive Ross, Robb replied, "That's the million-dollar question. When you're faced with betrayal, can you truly forgive?"
Future Fallout
Robb noted that Mack and Charity have not split up, but he described it as "a band-aid" over the issue. Mack immediately enters protection mode, but the secret about Leyla's parentage could resurface, especially since Sarah and Jacob remain unaware. "Inevitably that has to come to fruition somehow, somewhere," Robb added, leaving the consequences to the writers.
