Manchester United have dismissed reports linking Benjamin Sesko with a move to Barcelona, insisting the Slovenian striker is not for sale. The 23-year-old joined United from RB Leipzig for £73million last summer and scored 11 Premier League goals in his debut season at Old Trafford.
Barcelona's Interest Dismissed
Reports in Spain claimed Barcelona have Sesko on their shortlist as they seek a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Julian Alvarez remains their primary target, but with no agreement yet with Atletico Madrid, they may look elsewhere. However, United officials have laughed off the suggestions, stressing Sesko will remain at the club.
United have a fractious relationship with Barcelona following the Catalan club's refusal to pay a £26million option to sign Marcus Rashford, while suggesting they wanted a cut-price deal. Old Trafford figures have no intention of reopening talks over Rashford and would not entertain offers for Sesko.
Striker Recruitment Plans
United are actually looking to add a forward this summer, seeking an experienced striker to share the goalscoring burden with Sesko and provide rotation. This plan may hinge on the future of Joshua Zirkzee, who joined from Bologna for £36.5million two years ago but has struggled to make an impact. Zirkzee is keen to fight for his place, but United would listen to offers for him during the transfer window.
According to Tyrone Marshall, Senior Manchester Football Writer, United's stance on Sesko is clear: he is integral to their plans and will have a more prominent role in his second campaign at the club.
