Kuwaiti group to take controlling stake in Slough Town

Kuwaiti investment group Development Holding Company has agreed to acquire a controlling stake in the company that owns National League South side Slough Town Football Club.

The deal will see the group progressively increase its shareholding in A23 Football Group Limited to 70% over three years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Development Holding Company said the binding agreement had received all applicable regulatory and football authority approvals. The announcement sets out a phased acquisition rather than an immediately completed takeover.

Expansion into sport

The investment forms part of the Kuwait-based group's international expansion and diversification into sport. For Slough Town, the partnership is intended to support long-term growth, player development and the club's community activities.

Talal Al Ajmi, founder and chairman of Development Holding Company, said: “As DH continues to diversify its portfolio and expand its international presence, we see Slough Town Football Club as a highly compelling opportunity. It is a historic club with a loyal supporter base, a strong community identity and an ambitious vision for the future, located in a dynamic UK town with considerable economic and social potential.”

The announcement did not detail the size of any investment in the club's facilities or playing squad, or set out changes to its management structure.

Club strategy and heritage

Slough Town's existing strategy focuses on sustainability, talent, fan experience and community. Its priorities include strengthening its academy and player development pathways, alongside expanding women's, youth and community football.

Al Ajmi said the investor intended to preserve the club's identity and heritage. “We have great confidence in the team's capabilities and in the direction established by the club's leadership. Any future involvement from DH would be guided by a long-term commitment to responsible growth, with the club's heritage, supporters, and community remaining at the heart of its journey.”

Ashley Smith, chief executive of Slough Town FC, said the club had made progress since the current ownership group took over in 2023, including improvements to its sporting venue, community presence and academy structure.
