Altrincham Irish Deli Replaced by Croissant Bar and Pizza Concept
Altrincham Irish Deli Replaced by Croissant and Pizza Spot

The Irish Deli in Altrincham, which closed at the end of June, will be replaced by two new food and drink concepts under one roof: Flakey, a croissant and coffee bar, and Paddy's, a pizza, beer, and cocktail bar. Owners Dan Mullen and John Kennedy announced the transformation, with the new venues opening on July 30.

From Irish Deli to Dual Concept

Since September 2024, The Irish Deli operated next to Kennedy’s pub on Greenwood Street, opposite Altrincham Market, offering Irish products like cheese, meat, Tayto crisps, and Barry’s Tea, as well as popular hot chicken rolls and chocolate Guinness cheesecake. The closure was announced last month for a major transformation.

Flakey will serve stuffed croissants, specialty coffee, and matcha from early morning, Monday through Sunday. Menu items include the Buff Italian (veg caponata, buffalo mozzarella, pesto, crushed pistachios), the New Yorker (Emmental, Gruyere, pastrami, sauerkraut, pickles, Russian dressing, halal), and the Sticky BC (vanilla Basque cheesecake, Biscoff sauce). Coffee and matcha offerings include classic variations and inventive creations like Strawberry Shortcake Matcha and Banana Biscoff Latte.

Paddy's Pizza and Evening Vibe

As afternoon turns to evening, the space becomes Paddy's, named after a 'scruffy' Irish terrier owned by the owner's grandmother. It serves handcrafted pan-pizzas with house tomato sauce and Paddy's cheese mix, with toppings such as Paddy’s Pep (chilli and burrata), The Dubliner (Irish sausage, pickled red onion, rosemary), and The God Father (mortadella, burrata, pistachio pesto, pecorino). From Thursdays onward, Paddy’s offers beers and cocktails until late. Orders can be placed via an in-house app with delivery to Kennedy’s.

During opening week (July 30 to August 2), Paddy’s offers 50% off all pizzas for Kennedy’s guests between 3 and 5pm. Owners Dan Mullen and John Kennedy said: "We've designed it to evolve throughout the day - start with coffee and croissants, come back for pizza, and stay for a pint or a cocktail. It's one site, two distinct food experiences, and neither compromises the other. Two brands sharing one building with completely different moods, and we think Altrincham is going to love both. Our goal is to create a venue that's full of life from open til close."

Opening Promotions and Future Plans

Ahead of opening, Paddy's is hosting a pizza hunt with twenty branded Pizza-Pan boxes hidden around Altrincham, containing vouchers, t-shirts, drinks vouchers, or a "pizza for life" keyring. Clues are revealed daily on Instagram under #PaddysPizzaHunt. Both concepts plan to continue rolling out across Altrincham's food scene throughout summer, with private hire, pizza nights, local business gifting, and delivery via the in-house app.

Flakey hours: Monday to Friday 7:30am-4pm, Saturday 7:30am-2:30pm, Sunday 8:30am-2:30pm. Paddy's hours: Thursday 4pm-10pm, Friday & Saturday 12pm-12am, Sunday 2pm-9pm. Address: 34 Greenwood Street, Altrincham, WA14 1RZ.
