The Met Office has confirmed that the UK heatwave, which has seen temperatures soar above 30°C, will begin to ease next week. Weather maps indicate a noticeable drop in temperatures from Friday, July 17, as deep red patches of heat turn to yellow and blue.
Heatwave Continues Through Weekend
Large parts of the UK are experiencing a third heatwave this year, with temperatures climbing throughout the week. Friday was originally forecast to be the peak at 34°C, but the Met Office now says Saturday, July 11, will also see highs of 33°C. The north west remains under an amber heat health alert due to the extreme conditions.
Relief Expected Next Week
According to the Met Office, "Staying dry and settled throughout Sunday and early next week with plenty of sunshine. Remaining very warm although an easterly breeze will bring a little relief to the hot conditions." Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree added, "While temperatures are expected to ease across southeast England through the weekend and into next week, it won't be a straightforward end to the warm weather."
Weather Map Details
Weather maps show deep red patches of heat each day until next Friday, when they shift to yellow and then blue, signaling cooler conditions. Mr. Crabtree explained, "High pressure is expected to remain in charge through much of next week, but it will gradually migrate northwards. This means that an easterly wind will become established in the south, and the focus for the hottest conditions will migrate towards the southwest. As a result, some places that have seen the highest temperatures during recent weeks will begin to cool."
