Red Devils Cancel Southport Flower Show Over Weather

The Red Devils Parachute Display Team have cancelled their performance at the Southport Flower Show due to weather conditions. The world-famous special guests were scheduled to perform at 12pm on the opening day of the four-day festival, but organisers confirmed the aerial display would not go ahead.

Event Continues Despite Cancellation

The annual event, which reached its 100th anniversary in 2024, attracts more than 50,000 visitors across its four days at Victoria Park in Southport. The event will return from Thursday, August 20 until Sunday, August 23.

A number of special guests, including TV chef Phil Vickery, Anton Du Beke, Su Pollard and Rob Rinder, will entertain guests at this year's event. Its packed programme features guest Q&A sessions, live demonstrations in the Cookery Theatre; live music performances on the Piazza Stage, and more.

Organisers' Statement on Weather

In a post on Facebook, organisers of the event said: "Due to the inclement weather, the Red Devils will unfortunately not be performing at Southport Flower Show today.

"However, the show is still going ahead! There’s plenty to see and do, including celebrity presentations, cookery demonstrations, stunning show gardens, Grand Floral. Floral Art, Amateur Growers and Honey and Bee Marquees, Lakeside Reset, Children’s Trail and much much more.

"We look forward to welcoming you to Southport Flower Show and making the most of the day, whatever the weather!"

Weather Warning in Place

A yellow weather warning is currently in place until 10am today in Southport. The warning on the Met Office website states: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms likely to lead to some travel disruption and flash flooding.

"Heavy showers will develop this evening, becoming more frequent and widespread overnight. These are likely to bring 15 to 20 mm in an hour in some areas with as much as 30 to 50 mm falling in a period of six hours in some places.

"These accumulations may lead to a few places seeing some flooding. Alongside the rain, some showers are likely to be thundery, bringing the additional hazards of lightning and hail. The showers will ease from the northwest Thursday morning."

According to the Met Office website, the rain is forecast to stop at 6pm. Friday to Sunday looks much brighter, with rain forecast for 8pm to 10pm on Friday evening.
