Police called as crowds swarm Bristol eclipse glasses stand

Police were called to Bristol's Sea Walls earlier today after hundreds of people swarmed a tent handing out free solar eclipse glasses. The stand, hosted by science centre We The Curious, was set up to distribute glasses ahead of today's partial solar eclipse.

Demand spirals out of control

The demand soon became unmanageable, and police were called to manage the queue as people tried to secure glasses for the once-in-a-lifetime event. One eyewitness at the scene said some people grew unruly when they were unable to get their glasses.

Parking chaos at Sea Walls

Due to there being no parking at the Sea Walls, vehicles were also double and triple-parked on the grass, the eyewitness added.
