The Met Office has identified 26 areas that are likely to experience rain on Tuesday, as the changeable conditions of recent days continue. At 2am on September 8, wet weather is expected over much of western and northern Britain.
New weather maps from the Met Office show a large band of rain running roughly from the South West to the North East, covering Cornwall, Devon, the West Midlands, North England, and South England. The areas most likely to see the heaviest rain are parts of South Wales, northern England, and western and northern Scotland.
Heaviest rain in South Wales and northern England
South Wales, particularly around Cardiff and the Bristol Channel, appears to have some heavier rainfall, according to the maps. Northern England, especially around Cumbria, Lancashire, and the Pennines, is also likely to experience heavier rain, with some areas showing moderate rainfall.
In Scotland, the western Highlands and northern parts of the country are expected to see more persistent and locally heavier rain. Overall, western and northern parts of the UK are likely to receive the most rain, while southeastern England is expected to remain much drier.
Dry conditions in the southeast
Some areas will escape the rain altogether. Around London, Kent, Essex, East Anglia, and much of South-east England, there is little or no rainfall showing on the maps.
A Met Office weather forecast for Tuesday says: "Heavy rain slowly clearing the southeast in the morning. A brighter day for many and feeling fresh. Winds gradually easing in the north, with showers too."

The 26 areas forecast to see rain are: Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire, Argyll and Bute, Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and Kinross, Highland, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, and Ceredigion.
