Parts of the UK could continue to be hit by showers on Saturday, with Met Office maps showing a drizzly start to the weekend. The worst of the rain is expected to move across Scotland during the morning, with patchy downpours in coastal English areas including Lincolnshire.
Rain expected in Scotland and eastern England
It will follow a wet day for parts of the country on Friday and the hottest one of the year so far on Thursday, when temperatures reached 38.1C at Kew Gardens in London. Southern regions will largely escape the rain on Saturday, as it hits northwestern Scotland and the eastern English coast at around 7am.
Despite the ongoing wet weather in the morning, the worst of the thunderstorms forecast across the country on Friday night are expected to clear in the early hours.
Areas facing rain on Saturday

- England: Lincoln, Peterborough, Nottinghamshire, Norwich
- Wales: Caernarfon, Cardiff
- Scotland: Kendal, Dumfries, Cumnock, Craig, Lairg, Portree, Fort William
- Northern Ireland: Coleraine, Ballymena
Met Office Saturday forecast
While Met Office maps show drizzle in patches across the UK in the early hours of Saturday, its daily forecast suggests "very warm and humid" conditions, especially for parts of the southeast. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will continue to clear throughout the day, with "widely fine" weather elsewhere and "nearer average temperatures" with showers continuing for northern Scotland.
The forecast for Sunday to Tuesday predicts more settled and dry weather, with sunny spells set to last into the beginning of next week. From that point, conditions could take a turn, however, "turning breezier in the northwest as various rain bands push in, perhaps heavy".
