The Met Office has forecast rain for parts of the UK on Sunday morning, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave. The rain will be followed by another weather front moving in from the Atlantic next week, according to weather maps.
Rain on Sunday Morning
At 7.15am on Sunday, the west coast will see showers predicted to drench the UK from Liverpool to northern Scotland. The rain will then move to the east coast, hitting Norfolk and Lincolnshire at around 9am, though the rest of the day is expected to be relatively dry.
By 1pm, heavier rain is forecast to cover the majority of Scotland, stretching down to Manchester in England, though Aberdeenshire looks dry at this time. By 7pm, west Scotland will have patchy rain, with the focus shifting to the east coast, including East Lothian and Aberdeenshire. Scattered rain will also hang over Northumberland and down the northeast coast of England.
Monday's Weather Front
A huge band of rain is set to return on Monday, hitting Scotland and the west coast. This follows the Sunday showers and is part of a broader pattern of unsettled weather.
South of England Remains Dry
The showers are largely absent in the south of England, where drought conditions and hosepipe bans have been in place the longest, leaving parks and fields brown and dry.
A Government alert was sent to Brits' phones on Friday night, warning against using any barbecues or fire pits due to the extreme risk of wildfires. Firefighters continue to battle major incidents across parts of the country, following some of the most challenging conditions seen in recent years.
The UK has just endured its fifth heatwave, with provisional temperatures exceeding 38C at London's Kew Gardens. A rare amber weather warning for extreme heat was in effect across a large swathe of the UK on Thursday.
