Met Office Outlook for the UK

In its outlook for this week, the Met Office said: "The UK will see a predominantly settled start to the week. By Wednesday heavy showers, thunderstorms and locally significant rainfall are forecast from the middle of the week onwards."

Looking ahead to the end of the week, the UK forecaster said it will be rather unsettled, with a combination of mild temperatures, heavy showers and possible thunderstorms.

Changeable Conditions into September

The Met Office added: "A relatively unsettled start to this period, as showers or longer spells of rain are possible across many parts of the UK, along with some strong winds. Some heavy bursts and thunderstorms are likely at times."

It will likely remain changeable into early September, with rainfall amounts probably above average for the time of year and the potential for some more strong winds at times. However, some drier, more settled interludes could develop at times. Temperatures are likely to be near average, although some short-lived warm or hot spells are possible, especially in the south.

On Friday, a slow-moving band of heavy rain could cross the country as an area of low pressure develops, with some rainfall potentially intense and accompanied by thunderstorms.
