Tim Sherwood believes that Yoane Wissa was lucky not to be sent off during Newcastle United's Premier League opener with Liverpool on Sunday.
The Magpies were held to a heart-breaking draw in the cruellest fashion at St James' Park, with a 2-1 win slipping into a 2-2 draw in the last minute of play, with Dominik Szoboszlai converting from the penalty spot when Victor Munoz was brought down by Lewis Hall at the death.
Wissa's key role in the match
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for the hosts just five minutes into the match, before Cody Gakpo levelled matters in the second-half with a long-ranged strike.
Wissa played a major part in Newcastle's second goal moments later, dribbling past a number of Reds players before squaring the ball to Joe Wilock, who converted from close range.
Sherwood's red card verdict
However, as per Sherwood, the Congolese forward shouldn't have been on the pitch to do so. Already on a yellow card, Wissa tripped Ryan Gravenberch in the middle of the pitch as the first-half drew to a close.
And speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood felt as though a second-yellow was warranted for the foul. He said: "It's a second yellow; it's a red card in my opinion."
