Manchester Airport has reported nine delayed flights as of 10.30am on Monday, 24 August, with no cancellations recorded so far, according to FlightRadar24.com. The delays come with just one week left of the summer holidays for children across England.
July was officially the second busiest travel month ever recorded at the airport, with more than 3.3 million passengers using it. Predictions at the start of the summer suggested this would be its busiest season on record, with more than 5.7 million passengers expected to fly in and out of the northern travel hub between Friday, July 17, and the end of the holidays on September 1.
Popular destinations and passenger guidance
Antalya in Turkey and Palma in Mallorca have been the most popular destinations as travellers return to reliable holiday destinations. Passengers due to fly have been issued guidance to help ensure their journey is as smooth as possible, including allowing plenty of time to get to the airport.
Passengers are urged to arrive at the airport at least two hours ahead of their scheduled flight time, and three hours for a long-haul flight. This ensures they have sufficient time to check in and pass through security in plenty of time before their flight.
Security advice for hand baggage
Guidance on how to get hand and hold baggage through security unchallenged has also been issued, as extra bag checks can be one of the biggest hold-ups for airports. For example, many passengers may innocently pack banned items such as liquids greater than 100mls, multi-tools, and even large squishy toys in their hand baggage, creating a need for extra bag checks. Lithium batteries are also banned from being placed in hold luggage.
