Liverpool and Merseyside are set to be hit by a new storm just hours after the previous one ended. A weather warning is in place from 12pm today due to the arrival of Storm Boelo, following the disruption caused by Storm Austen on Friday, October 23.
Warning details and expected conditions
The Met Office warning is active from 12pm and will last until tomorrow at 9pm. Strong winds are expected to spread across northern parts of the UK this afternoon, combining with spells of heavy rain.
Initially strong southerly winds will affect parts of Scotland before more widespread and even stronger westerly winds develop later on Saturday. Very windy conditions will then persist overnight and through much of Sunday before gradually easing from the southwest later.
Gusts and rainfall in Liverpool
Gusts of 55-65 mph are likely widely, with some coastal and exposed areas potentially seeing gusts of 70 to 80 mph or more, although these strongest gusts are most likely across Scotland and the far north of England.
In Liverpool, light rain is forecast to start at 9am this morning, with wind speeds of 23mph. From 12pm, the rain will get heavier and wind speeds will be at 35mph. These speeds will increase to 40mph by 1pm, before climbing to between 45mph and 49mph for the rest of the day. The rain is forecast to stop by 9pm this evening.

The strong winds and heavy rain from Storm Austen led to the cancellation of events across the region, including the River of Light and Newsham Scream Park. The new warning for Storm Boelo is set to bring similar conditions, with the rain forecast to ease by this evening.
