Eastwood Park in Giffnock, near Glasgow, has been evacuated and sealed off by police following a gas leak caused by a burst main. All buildings within the park, including the local leisure centre, have been closed as emergency crews respond to the incident.
Emergency services were alerted at around 4pm on Monday, September 7, with Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) workers at the scene alongside police. Pictures from outside the park show several emergency vehicles as workers in high-visibility clothing deal with the burst main.
Leisure centre and pitch activities suspended
All activities at Eastwood Park Leisure and Theatre have been suspended, and no outdoor activities will take place on the pitch this evening. East Renfrewshire Council confirmed the leak on social media, saying: “Eastwood Park is currently closed due to an ongoing gas leak.
“Emergency services and Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) are on site dealing with the situation. All buildings within Eastwood Park are closed, so any activities usually held at the leisure centre or pitch will not be running this evening. We will provide further updates as they're available.”
Police cordon in place
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Eastwood Park in Giffnock is closed following a report of a burst gas main. Emergency services were called to the scene around 4pm on Monday, September 7, 2026.
“All premises within Eastwood Park have been evacuated as a precaution and a police cordon is in place. People are advised to avoid the area.”
