Girl, 11, Dies in Water Tragedy Near Scots Park

An 11-year-old girl has died in a water tragedy near a woodland park in Midlothian. Her body was recovered from the water yesterday afternoon, and a police investigation is now underway.

Incident Details

Police were called to the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge, around 12:40pm on Thursday following concerns for the girl. Her body was found in the Gore Water near Shanks Bridge around 4:25pm.

Police are treating the death as unexplained, and an investigation has been launched.

Police Statement

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for an 11-year-old girl in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge around 12.40pm on Thursday, 6 August, 2026.

“The body of the girl was found in the Gore Water near to Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her family are aware.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
