Emergency alert sent with wildfire warning

An emergency alert has been sent to mobile phone users in England and Wales, warning them not to light anything that could spark a fire. The Government sent the alert on Friday evening, with the message beginning to appear on mobile devices from 7pm.

Wildfire response and Prime Minister's visit

The alert comes as firefighters continue to battle the effects of major incidents across parts of the country, following some of the most challenging conditions seen in recent years. Earlier today, the Prime Minister visited Stourbridge to meet residents affected by wildfire damage and thank firefighters, emergency responders, and local resilience partners who have worked around the clock to protect lives and property.

A total of 19 homes were completely destroyed in the wildfire.
