The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta returns this weekend, offering three days of events and activities celebrating Bristol's ballooning heritage. The free event features demonstrations, immersive attractions, live music, and a variety of food and drink. Two mass ascents are scheduled daily at 6am and 6pm, subject to weather conditions, along with two Night Glows.
Weather Forecast
According to the Met Office, the weekend will be mostly dry in Bristol, with only a 5% chance of rain on Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8. Sunday, August 9, may see more rain, with chances ranging from 20% in the morning to 5% in the evening.
Sunshine and warm weather are forecast across the weekend, with Saturday being the hottest day at 27C, followed by 25C on Sunday and 23C on Friday. UV levels are expected to remain high, so visitors should seek shade during midday, cover up, and wear sunscreen.
Night Glow Events
The Night Glows, iconic fixtures of the fiesta, take place at 9pm on Friday and Saturday evenings. These events draw large crowds as hot air balloons of various shapes and sizes illuminate the main arena after dark, pulsing in time to music, offering excellent photo and video opportunities.
Preparation for each Night Glow is extensive, with balloon teams rehearsing routines using miniature lightbulbs and switches ahead of the main event. Exclusive VIP Night Glow wristbands, granting access into the main arena, have sold out. However, those without wristbands can still view the illuminated balloons from outside the arena.
For those attending solely for the Night Glows, note that last entry into pre-booked car parks is typically around 5.30pm, before the evening mass ascent. The Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed between 6pm and midnight during the Night Glows on both Friday and Saturday. Visitors should also expect delays when leaving the site each evening.
