Organisers of the Blackpool Air Show have issued a plea to the public not to feed seagulls or leave food waste behind, in a bid to reduce the risk of bird strikes during the event.
Large Crowds Expected
The annual show, held at Blackpool Airport, attracted more than 350,000 attendees last year. This year's event, scheduled for August 8-9, will feature RAF Typhoons, a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and the Red Devils parachute team.
According to the event's website, the show will include "some of the world’s finest military and civilian aircraft performing over the iconic seafront."
Safety Warning
Visitors are being warned that gull gatherings can pose a hazard to aircraft, particularly during low-level flying displays. Attendees are asked to dispose of rubbish properly and refrain from feeding the birds.
Jim Johnson, operations, safety and compliance manager at Blackpool Airport, said: "It's fantastic to welcome so many people to enjoy the Blackpool Air Show each year and it is the most exciting week in our calendar!"
He added: "We would like to ask everyone, particularly those watching from the nearby sand dunes, to support us by not feeding the gulls and by taking all litter and food waste away when they leave."
Cooperation Key
Limiting food availability helps reduce the number of gulls near the airport, lowering the risk of bird strikes during displays. Johnson expressed gratitude for public cooperation, saying: "We are grateful for everyone's cooperation in helping to keep the event safe for pilots and spectators alike."
