A 2.2-magnitude earthquake struck Grimsby, Lincolnshire, just before 7.50pm yesterday, according to the British Geological Survey website. Residents in nearby Cleethorpes and surrounding areas also reported feeling the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 5km.
Residents describe shaking and rumbling
Taking to social media to describe their experiences, one resident said: "I felt what felt like a really quick shake in my house, I thought something heavy had fallen down upstairs or in the loft." Another commented: "Felt a bang like the house being hit."
One person wrote on Facebook: "Felt the house shake and rumble." Another resident said: "I heard a deep rumble, I thought it was thunder."
