Elevate85, described as the world's tallest travelling fairground ride, has become a temporary landmark at this year's Hoppings in Newcastle. Standing at 85 metres (278 feet), the ride offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and beyond.
Height Comparisons and Views
To put the ride's height into perspective, Elevate85 is 4.25 times the height of the Angel of the North, just over twice the height of Grey's Monument, and 25 metres taller than St James' Park. ChronicleLive audience writer Olivia Sheed experienced the ride and was particularly impressed by the views of St James' Park, Jesmond, Gosforth, and the city centre.
The Hoppings 2026 Details
This year, The Hoppings occupies a smaller space than usual due to drainage works at the north end of the Town Moor. Despite this, organisers promise over 400 attractions, including Elevate85. The event runs until Sunday, June 28.
