Tynemouth Longsands has been named one of the best beaches in the UK to visit over the Bank Holiday weekend, securing 10th place in a new top 10 list from travel specialists Ski Famille.
The beach, which is the only North East entry on the list, scored 4.8 out of 5 based on Google reviews. The rankings are topped by Rhossili Bay in Swansea.
Celebrity visitors and local favourites
Longsands is no stranger to national acclaim or celebrity visitors. Sandro Tonali, now playing for Spurs, and his wife Juliette Tonali used to regularly walk their dog there, and may have crossed paths with Dan Burn and his family, as the defender is also a big fan.
In early May, podcast host and Celebs Go Dating romance guru Paul C. Brunson was spotted with a camera crew on the sands. Last year, Newcastle-born presenter Vick Hope and her husband, DJ Calvin Harris, went for a stroll there after seeing Lindisfarne in North Shields.
Weather outlook for the weekend
With thunderstorms forecast for Friday afternoon, the long weekend is set to get off to a bleak start, with rain expected to be the trend for Saturday and Sunday too. Even so, a visit to Longsands is still worthwhile, if only to blow the cobwebs away.
