TRNSMT will transform into a fan zone for Scotland's second group stage match against Morocco on June 19. Scotland supporters will now be able to purchase late entry tickets for TRNSMT to catch the Scotland vs Morocco match after the opening day of the festival ends on Friday night.
Organisers are turning the Glasgow Green festival site into a giant fan zone following Richard Ashcroft's headline performance, with thousands of supporters expected to stay on and watch the group match live from Boston. A special late-entry ticket has also been announced, allowing football fans to enter the festival grounds from 7.30pm to catch Ashcroft's set and enjoy a unique programme of pre-match entertainment before kick-off.
The evening will be hosted by broadcaster Sean McDonald, best known for his popular Blethered podcast. He will be joined on stage by Rose Reilly, the only Scottish person to have won a World Cup. Reilly took the win with Italy's women's team in 1984, scoring in the final and securing a place in football history.
Anticipation is already building following Scotland's dramatic victory in their opening Group C match in the early hours of Sunday morning. However, attention has now turned to Friday night's encounter with Morocco, with thousands expected to gather at Glasgow Green to cheer on Steve Clarke's side.
The tickets are now on sale on the Gigs In Scotland official website and are priced at £56.06, which includes the £3.06 Glasgow City Council levy. The pre-match entertainment will feature a range of Scottish talent from DJs, singers and comedians, getting supporters in the spirit for the match.
Radio DJ George Bowie will bring his iconic GBX set to the stage, while comedian Rosco McClelland is set to perform his Scotland anthem inspired by the Cheers theme tune. Piper and singer Cammy Barnes will then lead a rendition of Flower of Scotland shortly before kick-off. Organisers are expecting a massive atmosphere and hope for a sea of saltires to fill up Glasgow Green.
George Bowie said: "I'm buzzing to play Glasgow Green after TRNSMT this Friday and support the Scotland team with the best crowd in the world - something I've always wanted to do. I'll be playing lots of the big football songs I've been part of, from Bits to Boogie and a surprise or two…and you never know who might join us on stage. Then we get to watch the game on the biggest screen in the country. Come on Scotland and come on Glasgow Green!"
Rose Reilly, the only Scottish person to have won a World Cup, will make an appearance for the pre-match entertainment. While host Sean McDonald said: "I'm so excited to be part of such a massive day and night for Glasgow and for Scotland. The Glasgow Green crowd is always electric, and I know they'll create an unbelievable atmosphere for the full game. Thousands of us together on the Green, getting behind Scotland at the World Cup in the middle of a party atmosphere…what more could you possibly want?"
DF Concerts chief executive Geoff Ellis said the screening would create a memorable occasion for fans. "We're building up to another huge weekend on Glasgow Green but it doesn't get much bigger than showing a World Cup game on the nation's biggest screen," he said. He added: "We all saw the incredible scenes and celebrations across Scotland on Sunday morning and we're thrilled we can host our own unique fan zone this Friday. We've got a cracking lineup taking us all the way to kick off with George Bowie set to get the party started with some big tunes and it's great to have Sean McDonald hosting the event, and it's an honour to have Rose Reilly - the only Scottish person to have won a world cup - up on the stage. When Cammy Barnes plays Flower of Scotland it will be a genuine 'hairs on the back of the neck' moment. It's going to be a hugely special occasion and we can't wait for it."
