Chad Lowe and his wife, Kim Painter, have confirmed the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Harper Lowe. The couple shared the devastating news with People Magazine, saying: "We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona."
Family statement and plea for privacy
In their statement, the couple described Fiona as "adored by her sisters and deeply loved by her parents," adding: "In fact, she was the light of our lives." The family has not disclosed the cause of death, but their statement encouraged those in need to seek mental health assistance.
They said: "Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988."
Family background
Chad Lowe, 58, won an Emmy for his performance in the 1989 television series Life Goes On, while Kim Painter, 52, works as a Hollywood casting director. The couple have two surviving daughters, Mabel, aged 17, and Nixie, aged 10.
Fiona's uncle, Rob Lowe, is a Hollywood A-lister known for his roles in The West Wing, Wayne's World, and Parks and Recreation. The family also endured devastating loss last year when wildfires obliterated their home, as Chad Lowe revealed on Instagram.
Previous reflections on loss
Twelve months after the January 2025 catastrophe, he reflected: "This terrible experience has been a powerful reminder of this simple truth - we can't always control what happens to us in this life but we can control how we respond."
He added: "And I have been so incredibly proud of how my wife Kim and our daughters have strived to make the absolute best of this extraordinarily difficult circumstance. I am in awe of their resilience."
In a further Instagram post shared in February 2025, he wrote: "Almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what's left of their home. The way they've handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable. I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life's greatest joy and privilege."
