Travel experts Theo and Rodrigo, who share their favourite destinations from around the world, have spotlighted Rye in East Sussex as an absolute must-visit for a UK staycation or daytrip. In a TikTok video, the duo described the town as a "fairytale" destination that "looks like it was frozen in time," drawing attention to its Tudor architecture.
Rye's Standout Features
"It's called Rye," the pair revealed. "Picture cobbled streets, cute houses and a hilltop castle watching over it all." They particularly highlighted Mermaid Street, often described as one of the most beautiful roads in England, lined with crooked cottages and little shops.
Theo and Rodrigo also recommended several local spots, including Fletcher's House for high-tea brunch, The Old Shed off-licence, Rye Deli, and Simply Rye for gifts. They noted, "It's the perfect place for a slow stroll or a cosy pub lunch." The footage also captured Rye Pottery and other landmarks, with the option to walk down to the beach for sea air.
Local Guide Endorsement
Supporting the recommendation, Rye's visitor guide from Visit 1066 Country describes the town as "a medieval citadel huddled against invaders and the sea," now home to art, curiosities, cosy pubs, boutique hotels, and contemporary restaurants. The website adds, "Built on smuggled secrets and timeless tales, Rye has nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to ponder."
Reactions to the video were positive, with one user commenting, "What an adorable spot!" Another recommended a Greek restaurant with "fabulous owners," while others simply said, "How pretty!" and "This is so stinking cute!"
