Daniel Svensson has played down transfer speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool or Arsenal. The Sweden international has caught the eye since signing for Borussia Dortmund initially on loan from Nordsjaelland in February 2025. He has made 73 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit to date, scoring seven goals and recording seven assists.
Svensson addresses Premier League links
The 24-year-old’s impressive form has seen him linked with a move to the Premier League with both the Reds and the Gunners touted as possible suitors during the summer. But while Svensson, who is comfortable playing at both left-back and left-midfield, has admitted he was aware of such transfer speculation, he has insisted he was never close to leaving Dortmund.
“I saw something about it. But nothing I've heard anything more about,” he told SVT Sport. “No, (I was not close to moving). Not at all, quite honestly. Of course it can be fun to read. It was nothing concrete and I hadn't heard anything more than what was in the newspaper. I feel good in Dortmund and look forward to continuing my journey there.”
Liverpool’s left-back situation
Svensson is currently under contract at Dortmund until 2029 while Liverpool brought in Milos Kerkez as a long-term successor for Andy Robertson only last summer as the Hungarian arrived in a £40m deal from AFC Bournemouth. However, the Reds could still be in the market for a new left-back in 2027. While Kostas Tsimikas returned to the club in the summer following a season-long loan at AS Roma and has ultimately taken Robertson’s place in the squad following his free transfer exit to Tottenham Hotspur, the Greek is out of contract at Anfield next summer.
Kerkez’s performances, meanwhile, continue to be the subject of intense scrutiny. Beyond the senior pair, Liverpool currently boast Luke Chambers, Owen Beck and Calum Scanlon on their books as recognised left-backs who have also made senior appearances for the club after coming through the academy. Chambers caught the eye of new head coach Andoni Iraola during pre-season. However, Beck is currently sidelined after suffering a long-term injury while Scanlon is out on loan at Cardiff City.
