Blackpool has been named the cheapest UK staycation spot, according to new research by credit card brand Aqua. With hotel rooms starting at just £82 per night, the iconic seaside town offers great value without skimping on fun, making it an ideal destination for families and couples on a budget.
The study, which analysed accommodation costs, search volume, and weather, found that 76 per cent of Brits now prefer to take at least one staycation per year. Blackpool attracted 21.5 million holidaymakers in 2023, a six per cent increase from the previous year, thanks to its competitive pricing and attractions like Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the 500ft tower.
Beyond the beach and arcades, the town has invested £350 million in redevelopment. The historic Grand Theatre, a Grade II listed building, recently completed £450,000 worth of restoration work funded by Arts Council England, with plans for a further £15 million capital development to future-proof the theatre and surrounding area.
For those travelling from London, direct trains take under three hours, or drivers can expect a 4-hour-37-minute journey. A weekend stay at the Fir Trees Guest House (13-15 June) costs just £54 for two adults sharing, while the four-star Imperial Hotel offers luxury at £198 for the same dates.
