The Seven Sisters Cliff Walk in East Sussex has been named one of the world's most visually striking hiking trails, according to a new eye-tracking study by running shoe retailer SportsShoes.com. The study used cutting-edge technology to monitor participants' eye movements as they viewed images of iconic routes globally, assigning each an 'eye-catching' score. The UK's Seven Sisters Cliff Walk secured a top 10 ranking, celebrated for its tranquil sands, azure waters, and stunning white cliff tops.
A Strenuous but Rewarding Route
The 12-mile (approximately 13-mile) trail typically takes four to seven hours to complete, depending on pace. Most walkers begin in Seaford and finish in Eastbourne, conquering seven hills along the way. The cliffs have featured in films such as Atonement and Harry Potter. The best vantage point for capturing all seven cliffs in one shot is at Hope Gap, while the finest clifftop views are near the Belle Tout and Beachy Head lighthouses.
Facilities and Visitor Feedback
Walkers can take a break at the Bearling Gap Cafe, which offers food, drinks, and toilet facilities. One visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: "The cliffs are breathtaking from a distance, and the view from the edge, facing the open sea, is unforgettable. Heading down to the pebble beach gives you a completely different, striking perspective."
