Hundreds of holidaymakers are jetting off to Ibiza this week for what has become known as Scouse Week on the island. The first seven days of August represent the peak of the summer season in Ibiza, and that is when more people than ever fly from Liverpool to make the most of the island's famous dance music scene and sun-kissed beaches.
What is Scouse Week?
The name was originally given to the BBC Radio 1 Ibiza Weekend, but has now come to be widely used by promoters, clubs, and events on the Balearic island, where it is also known as the Scouse Takeover. We visited Liverpool John Lennon Airport to catch some of the travellers off to Ibiza and hear their stories, including stag and hen dos, families, and groups of friends all looking forward to fun in the sun.
Holidaymakers' Stories
One friend group was headed to Ibiza for bride-to-be Hannah Shaw's hen party. After being with her partner for 20 years, Hannah said she can't wait to celebrate with her friends in one of her favourite destinations, which she has visited over 10 times.
Brothers Joseph, Thomas, and Daniel Greenwood were on their way to Ibiza for the third time. Daniel said he's most excited about "getting away from this bad weather" and Thomas said he is looking forward to the swimming pool.
It will be Sophie Mumberson, Alyssa Charters, Brianna Sewell, and Keely Melville's first time in Ibiza. The girls had already started drinking in preparation and they were all most excited about going to O Beach. Keely surprised her friends with handmade Ibiza itineraries for their six-day trip at the airport.
Excitement and Anticipation
Emily Taylor and Darcey Cowin couldn't wait to get to Ibiza. Darcey said: "We're doing the full Ibiza experience. We're most looking forward to Calvin Harris because you can't not have a ball there. It's going to be a scream."
Charlie Williams and Brad Kelly were also excited to get to the party island. Friends from South Liverpool were on their way to Ibiza, pin curls at the ready. The connection between Scousers and Ibiza is one that has spanned decades, and at any given point of the year there will be people from Liverpool living their best lives on the Spanish island.
One friend group were headed to Ibiza for Brad's stag do. Brad's Lord Farquaad outfit was incomplete without his wig, which he had left in his checked baggage. Scouse Week sees thousands of extra clubbers descend on Ibiza, with many choosing to fly from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
