ScotRail has brought back its popular Family Pass, a ticket that provides two adults and four children with unlimited travel across Scotland for seven days during the October holidays.
Priced at £60, the single ticket can be used for seven consecutive days, allowing families to travel from Inverness to Edinburgh one day, explore the Scottish Borders on another, and visit the West of Scotland without buying separate tickets for each journey.
Ticket details and start dates
The pass can be purchased online, from a ticket office, or from a member of train staff if no ticket office is available. Start dates range from October 12 to 19, with the minimum requirement being one adult and one child.
Families can choose which day of the week to start the pass. For example, if you choose October 12, the pass lasts until October 18. Alternatively, families can start on October 17, with the last travel day being October 23. The ticket will only be available for purchase until October 19.
Travel restrictions and additional information
The pass will only work after 9:15am on Monday to Friday, or at any time at the weekend. Kids of a Quid tickets will not work for any other children travelling in the group beyond the four that qualify for the Family Pass.
ScotRail has also shared its Intae-Rail guide, a parody of the Interrail experience that pairs some of Scotland's most spectacular rail destinations with iconic European hotspots. The guide includes Intae lists for adventure, sightseeing, food and drink, exploring, and nature.
For example, families can visit Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands, described as Scotland's answer to the Swiss Alps, and take in views as they ride the Cairngorm Mountain Railway or enjoy biking and kayaking at Loch Morlich. ScotRail has also named Plockton as the country's version of Positano, offering a waterfront and palm trees where families can enjoy lunch with locally caught seafood.
