A local resident has praised a "beautiful" beach in Wales that he believes deserves more recognition. Ruben Chorlton-Owen, 25, who has lived in Abersoch his whole life, highlighted Porth Bach as one of the best beaches in the area, despite it often going "completely unnoticed" by many visitors.
A Hidden Gem Near a Popular Destination
Abersoch is a well-known seaside village in North Wales, attracting thousands of visitors each summer, many from Liverpool, Manchester, and Chester. However, Ruben points out that Porth Bach, a short walk or drive from the village centre, remains a quiet escape even during peak times.
"It’s much quieter than the main beaches, even during the peak summer (bank holidays etc), and it’s the perfect place to escape the crowds and enjoy some peace and quiet," he said.
Scenery and Wildlife
The beach sits beside the Wales Coast Path, making it a convenient stop for walkers. Ruben describes the scenery as stunning, with clear water ideal for swimming. He also notes that dolphins and seals are often spotted in the area, although sightings are not guaranteed.
"They’re often seen in this area, although of course there’s never any guarantee. The seals can also sometimes be spotted here," he added.
Access and Facilities
Porth Bach is accessible via a 25-minute walk from Abersoch centre, either across the main beach or via the golf course, or by a short 10-minute drive. It is open all year and is dog friendly. However, visitors should be aware that there are no shops or commercial facilities on the beach, and it is advisable to check tide times to avoid being cut off, as the beach is primarily accessible by water or at low tide.
